8 million trees planted!

We did it! 8 million trees planted!

With immense pride and gratitude, the MBP team announces that the goal of planting 8,000,000 trees have been reached at Kianjavato Ahmanson Field Station! From 2012 to today, a total of 8,006,810 trees have been planted, each one symbolizing growth, strength and resilience.

We consider this as our part to build a greener futur for Madagascar. As Global Forest Watch reports, in 2020, Madagascar still had 15.6 million hectares of natural forest, covering about 26 % of the country’s land surface.
By 2024, however, that forest has taken a serious hit, the country lost around 226 000 hectares of natural forest, which translates into 115 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions entering the atmosphere.

We are currently facing the urgency of forest conservation on the great island. Let us rememeber that the remaining forests are not just trees but they’re critical habitats for iconic endangered species, essential carbon sinks, and vital for local communities.

As a part of our reforestation program, this year, we proudly chose an endemic tree found in Southeast Madagascar, supporting lemurs, birds, and forest regeneration, commonly known as: Sandrifitra (Orfilea coriacea).

Like every planting event, our goal is not only to restore the forest but also to strengthen our partnership with the local community. This recent celebration was a true reflection of that shared commitment.

We were honored to welcome the Mayor of Kianjavato, the President of the Fokontany of Ambalahosy Sud, and two Ampanjaka (traditional community leaders) from Ambalahosy Sud. This event was also joined by other  devoted members: students, Conservation Fusion staff.

We wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to all our incredible partners who helped us and supported us in this vision through years: Arbor Day Foundation, Conservation Fusion, Re:wild, IUCN SOS & IUCN SOS RAG, Brandywine Zoo, Marat Karpeka Lemur Foundation, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, Conservation Allies.

Last but not least, we are beyond grateful to  Dr. Edward E. Louis Jr and Susie Louis for their unwavering support  and dedication  to making KAFS (Kianjavato Ahmanson Field Station) a sustainable success!

Next goal: 9 millions trees!
We’re more than motivated to continue building a greener future for Madagascar.
