Meet Lucile, our PhD student at Montagne des Français!

Join Lucile, our devoted PhD student at Tangalavaka Field Station- Montagne des Français. She began her research on the Northern Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur septentrionalis) during her master’s degree and is now continuing her work as part of her PhD fieldwork. Her project aims to acquire complete baseline data that will directly inform conservation planning, habitat restoration, and local awareness initiatives.  With her field assistants, they carry out the following key activities:

    • Ecological monitoring and identification of resources used by L. septentrionalis.

    • Recording microhabitat characteristics both in areas of presence and absence of the species.

    • Analyzing floristic composition and mapping the distribution of vegetation formations across the Montagne des Français.

    • Assessing anthropogenic pressures and human disturbances across various forest sites.

    • Examining how human resource use may affect the ecological needs of L. septentrionalis.

Lucile reported to us: “I started my field research on this species during my master’s degree, and I continue now with my PhD fieldwork. I find all lemurs fascinating, but L. septentrionalis is special for me, It is so beautiful. Indeed, I highly recommend Malagasy students who are interested in primate conservation and lemurs lovers to pursue this path!”
