Meet Anicet, our PhD student!

Meet Anicet from the University of Mahajanga, who is one of our PhD student. He joined us last August 2024. His research focuses on identifying all plant species used in MBP’s reforestation efforts in Kianjavato. He collaborates closely with the KAFS team to identify tree species within the reforestation zones.

He is also developing photographic guides that document different growth stages — from seed to seedling to mature tree — and recording seed source locations for future reference. In addition, he works alongside MBP’s nursery teams to track germination rates, assess pretreatment methods, and monitor the ecological performance of key species.

To reduce plastic use, he is testing alternative nursery containers, including reusable fabric pots and biodegradable options. His research plays a crucial role in supporting the long-term restoration of the rainforest in Kianjavato.
