Please welcome a new volunteer, Dominique! She will be traveling all the way from Canada to join the Prolemur simus Monitoring Team. Learn more about Dominique in her intro blog below!
“Hello, my name is Dominique I am one of the March 2017 lemur monitoring volunteers at Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership. I am from Toronto, Canada but have spent the last 6 years studying and living in Vancouver, Canada. I recently graduated from the Applied Animal Biology program at the University of British Columbia where I focused on Animal Welfare and Wildlife Conservation.
Over the last few years I have worked hands on with a number of lemur species and other exotic animals providing outreach programs to educate the public on the conservation issues surrounding these animals. In addition to this experience, I interned at the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre in Vancouver helping to rescue, rehabilitate and release local marine mammals, such as Harbour Seals. Last year, after finishing my Animal Biology degree, I travelled to Asia where I volunteered at an elephant sanctuary that rehabilitates injured elephants. Together these experiences enhanced my love for animals and desire to work to create better lives for the individual animals and protect endangered species.
I am very excited to start my journey to Madagascar and work with the Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with lemurs in their natural habitats with such an incredible team and further develop my field skills.”
