Here at the Kianjavato Field site, we are on our way to becoming sustainable through installing solar panels for electricity, wells for drinking and cleaning water, using rocket stoves to cook and now even having our own chickens for eggs and turkeys for meat. In late 2015, a garden was constructed to produce our own fruit and vegetables with the addition of banana trees around the walkway. Through the reforestation program, a composting team was developed to enable each nursery to produce green compost for the growing amount of trees we are planting each week, and reduce the amount of compost that we have to get from the local fokontanys which are usually full of trash including glass, batteries and sharp rocks. All this will hopefully enable us to be more sustainable for the future. Here are some pictures of how we are developing at KAFS.
